This project was driven by the spatial analysis of the historical and industrial layering of lle Seguin in Paris.
The decay qualities have been interpreted into the concept of contamination and purification.
Visitors journey coincide with the industrial line in the narrative.
The project investigates the process of decontamination of the filthy feather that arrives into the factory, into the making of luxurious, soft, fluffy, clean product: a duvet.
Washing, drying, sorting, storing... Such spaces offer a sensational and spatial choreography, confronting people to extreme ironic states of cleanliness and dirtiness.
The three-dimensionality of the duvet form has been rigorously studied through physical model making, digital simulation, CAD-CAM rapid prototping, and atmospheric representation techniques.
This has informed the volumetric roof which behaves like a duvet, which wraps, expands, contracts and provide articulated programs underneath, inside, outside, and the in-between..
